THE HOME OF SHIRAZ IN SOUTH AFRICA.
Zandvliet Wine Estate, situated on the outskirts of the Robertson Valley’s Wine Route and within close proximity to the famed Route 62, which connects the Western and Eastern Cape regions in South Africa.
The story of Zandvliet is all about Shiraz, being one of South Africa’s first Shiraz producers ; with a history that extends back to first plantings during the 1870’s. Time honoured tradition balanced with genuine investment ensures the highest quality of wines and pure luxury in a glass.
The magical key to our success lies locked within the soils of Zandvliet. Known as calcareous Karoo, with a red clay underlay, dotted with pockets of chalky limestone; this is what we call Kalkveld, and it’s the driving force behind our classical wines. Firm acidity, concentrated flavours and mineral traces are delicately managed from vineyard to cellar. Our Hill of Enon wines, derived from a very special block on the estate, is an ancient geologically anomalous rocky outcrop with limestone patches dating back to the Upper Jurassic period. This piece of history is drinkable in our Hill of Enon Shiraz and Chardonnay wines.
All of the Zandvliet wines are of the kind we ourselves drink and admire, we consider them artisan hand crafted wines, cellar matured so if you want to enjoy them now or saviour on a later occasion – the choice is yours.
Zandvliet Hill of Enon
The Kalkveld single vineyard lies on the southern slope of the Hill of Enon, a magical hill that dominates the centre of Zandvliet itself. This hill, so-named after the complex conglomerate of limestone, pebbles and clay - the Enon Formation - is brushed daily by the southeasterly breeze cooling the vineyard. The unique terroir gives the wine its singular mineral footprint.

The unique terroir gives these single-vineyard wines their singular mineral footprint.
Zandvliet Estate Wines
The vineyards of Zandvliet are planted mainly in the direction of the prevailing winds, on the gentle slopes of the foothills south of the Cogmans river flowing through the estate. World-class Shiraz and Chardonnay are produced on our clayey, limestone-rich soils contributing salty, mineral characters and elegant wines. Zandvliet Shiraz, because of some of these attributes, remains one of South Africa's favourite red table wines and the Zandvliet Chardonnay is fast following in its footsteps.
Zandvliet My Best Friend
Zandvliet's credo has long been "the wine lovers' friend for many years" and this My Best Friend range reflects the pure enjoyment that goes into the making and sharing of a fine wine. Conceptualised and specially blended by cellar master Paul de Wet - originally for his best friend who wanted a juicy, easy-drinking wine at fair value - these wines have been designed to be immensely quaffable, for their - and your - everyday drinking pleasure.
